Ayatollah Mirza Jawad Agha Maleki Tabrizi was a distinguished faqih (jurist), ʿārif (mystic), and teacher of Islamic ethics in the seminaries of Najaf and Qom. He is best known for his spiritual and ethical works, especially al-Murāqibāt (The Spiritual Watchings) and Risālah Liqāʾ Allāh (Treatise on the Meeting with God), which focus on prayer, purification of the soul, and attaining nearness to God.
